We have been coming here for about 22 years. I think our first one was 1982, so that makes 25 years. We like sporting items, pottery, garden items - always things that are vintage. I bought a rolling pin that was made in Cheshire, CT today and six pieces of Gibson era sheet music. These are a huge treasure for two bucks apiece and my husband bought an old crab line.
The show has changed a lot since we first began to come here. It used to be more affordable in the old days. The variety is still here, but you can't always trust what you buy anymore. We pick certain fields and spend quality time in those. A lot of times we go to the back of the fields first. You can get unusual things that way. We'll come for one day at each of the three dates. One day is definitely enough. I like the New England Motel the best, but in the old days we really lined up for Jeannie Hertan's and May's. How about Joe Hopkins and his shuttle bus? Have we forgotten about him and some other old timers?
I like the assortment of unusual things at Brimfield. Just think of an object and you'll find a booth that specializes in it. What I like least is when you see something that you like and think it's the only one and then see 400 more over the next few hours. I also hate when there are no price tags on things.
